What is vellum?

Vellum can be thin like paper or thicker like card. It’s rather like tracing paper. The translucent nature allows colours and images to show through from underneath.

What is the difference between grommets, eyelets, and rivets?

These are easily confused, and names are often used interchangeably as they gain more popularity in the world of craft and in particular, stationery. In a nutshell grommets are 2 pieces pressed together in a pre-punched hole, eyelets are a single piece with a hole in the centre that is pressed and folds onto a piece of fabric, and rivets are solid without a hole in the middle.

What are Grommets?

A grommet is like a friendly little two-piece helper in the world of card crafting. It's carefully pressed through a pre-made hole in the card, creating a sturdy and neat finish. High-quality grommets are typically made from brass or stainless steel, metals that are as malleable as they are durable. When the grommet is installed, these metals cheerfully flare and roll to lock the two parts together, securing the card snugly in between. It's a small addition that adds a big touch of class to your card.

What are Eyelets?

Eyelets can sometimes be a bit perplexing. This is because smaller grommets are occasionally called eyelets, much like the tiny holes that your shoelaces thread through. However, more often than not, an eyelet refers to a uniquely styled piece of hardware.

An eyelet is a single component of a more traditional and somewhat labour-intensive method of reinforcing a hole. It's typically used with brass rings. The process starts with hand-sewing a brass ring over a pre-punched hole in the material or fabric. Then, the eyelet, which is usually made from soft brass, is pressed into the centre of the ring. A setting die is then used to lock the eyelet securely in place. It's a bit of an art form, really!

What are Rivets?

Rivets are generally designed to permanently hold 2 or more parts together. They usually have a relatively flat, disk-shaped head and a solid centre.
